You can dance in a hurricane, but only if you are standing in the eye. – Brandi Carlile
Hey world. what a week you had. Through our practice we create a ripple effect. We show up to our mats and get humbled then lifted up.
Repeat. r e p e a t. r e p e a t. And then we return. Each time sending bits of goodness outward.
When you step to your mat you are tossing a stone into the water. With little effort a ripple is immediately made. And sometimes, regardless of its size, you feel that ripple instantly. Other times you don’t even notice. Sometimes it’s not you, and it’s the environment around you… you’ve dropped the stone into the water but the water isn’t calm today, and the waves are high as hell and there was no affect from the stone tossed – – the motion towards and onto your mat. Did it make a difference?
It can feel like when the waves are high, or the tension around you is up, that the little things aren’t felt or heard. We think that we need to do something bigger to make a greater impact or change.
I challenge this thought.
There are days when the step towards the mat is the hardest thing for us to do. And then there are the days I’ve laid down on my mat and thought, “How did I get here… did I turn the stove off? Lock my bike? Oh well… redeeming my good karma now!”
Both are equally important, both hold equal opportunity to get quiet and listen. When you are rocking your practice, be mindful of the action and the ease of it, take a moment to wish that for someone else, send a good thought out of your heart to no one in particular, without knowing where it will land – – -> send it out.
When you are challenged by your practice, get quiet and listen… there is a beautiful opportunity to be smoothed out by the rough edges of life. You might wish that type of attention for someone else too.
Our action doesn’t have to get bigger, our words don’t have to get louder as the waves around us grow. I’ve noticed that when I get quiet, make my circle a little tighter, I can see and hear more. This is where the ripple effect turns into waves of change. We all have the option to be the eye of our own storm…even through days [weeks + months] when it feels like I have zero control and have been swept up into the madness, with breath and a steady mind I can get grounded in moments and be in conscious movement.
We can dance in a hurricane, when we’re standing in the eye.
To all the peaceful warriors out there… you are needed. You are being called. Breathe for peace. The world needs it now.
