A little about you and your background; how did it all start?
I’ve always loved Dreamcatchers since l was a little girl. I loved the handmade nature of the beautiful weaved web and the sacredness of the chosen crystals and feathers used. Filtering out bad dreams that l might have had and allowing only the good ones to enter my mind, was always something that resonated with me.
When did you start making dreamcatchers?
During a journey to the Navajo Reservation, l was called to weave a dreamcatcher for myself, infusing the web with my own dreams and wishes ~ so l created it having all the same functions but with a look l loved and with some extra added sacred symbols, intentions and meaning l felt was right for the totem. I then gifted them to family and friends; at Burning Man Aurora Spirits was born, and here we are.
What is a dreamcatcher?
Dreamcatchers are Totems that harness good energy and neutralize negative energy. The Night air is filled with beautiful Dreams and Visions, good dreams are clear and therefore caught, then guided on their way to the dreamer. Being let through the Web of Life, descending through crystals and feathers for the dreamer to reinforce what lay close to their heart. Bad dreams can’t find their way through the web, trapped until the morning Sun rises and the first light of the day evaporates them like the morning dew. Dreamcatchers are soul-drenched, sacred, serene and peaceful. Created for the body, mind, soul and spirit ~ artfully balanced between edgy & earthy, tough & feminine, sleek & elegant, subtle & personal.
Why is it important to have a dreamcatcher in your home?
l also look at mine every day as a gentle and beautiful reminder of my own dreams, wishes and intentions l have set of what l want to accomplish and offer the world. I’ve charged it with everything that lay close to my heart & soul. Home is our chosen sacred space, where we recharge and rewind. For me it’s important that the objects I choose to have at my home carries positive, calming and good energies which my dreamcatchers does.
Do you have a specific ritual when you make them?
l start by cleansing the space where l work with sage or palo santo while setting an intention for the day. When l work, l either work in silence as the weaving serves as a meditation for me, or l turn on curated music that l like to fuse into the Dream Instruments while l create. When l have finished the instruments l give each totem a blessing before it’s shipped out to its Dreamer. They come with Aurora Spirits tags, handwritten certifications with the Dreamcatchers name and explanations of all elements in it.
Each one is different. Sometimes l know details about the dreamer/dreamers for whom I’m creating, and choose specific crystals, colors and hand-painted feathers that will enhance the vibration in the areas on which they’re focusing. I’ll customize the Totems with birthstones both for entire family, or for one dreamer. During our initial exchanges, l get a deeper sense of who they are and will add specific crystals that support and seal their birthstones and the journey as a whole. Some send me personal sacred items from their own journeys or ancestors, which I can then add to their piece.
