The first time I visited Peru and Machu Picchu it was a truly transformative experience. On that trip I became a pilgrim. I found the awe that gives you the courage to go to the places that call you.
Through experience I’ve become a better pilgrim. I’ve learn to travel lighter, to connect to the places, to find strength when I’m really tired to keep my eyes open. To connect with others.
I was able to revisit this magical place, and this time leading an 18 yogi pilgrimage. The places we stayed were amazing. There’s so much to see around Cuzco and the Valley of the Gods that it’s easy to overextend. But we took time for yoga practice, meditation in some amazing spots, and mindful silent walking. Taking time out for practice adjusts our perspective, connects us with ourselves so we can truly see.
– Be your own mountain.
The day we visited Machu Picchu one girl was really upset that we wouldn’t get a chance to climb the highest mountain. I remember getting that same feeling my first time. But before we left, she said “I’ve come to understand that I’m my own mountain.” So true, because no matter where you go, all that you’ll find is yourself.
– Live in harmony with nature.
Sipping coca tea, I always get this sense of wonder: “how did they know which leaves to chew?“ They found the herbs to energize and heal, they grow the world most amazing vegetables. A land that is truly rich, and it’s people had great knowledge. When we are out of our homes and our comforts, we learn that we are at home in the world and Family is the people who are standing around us at this moment.
– There’s nothing more divine than the people we get walk with.
Each of our yogis taught me so much. I heard through they’re voices things I had been wrestling around in my head.
And the only way in this world that this came together is that I have the most amazing yogi-sister in the world. Somehow we complement each other and together we’ve been able to do some amazing things. We’ve seen each other grow and learn. And this group of yogis showed us how amazing this is, we’re making each other’s dreams come true.
