Through the evolution of my own practice, listening to the whispers of my body is now like listening to the whispers of my soul. It was not always like this…there were years of daily practice along with returning to and re-working a lot of deep energetic imprints that were not serving me. And it continues on.
In my work, I share that the body represents the subconscious. It has the power to hold every experience, memory, trauma, and emotion that moves through us. So powerful, and yet most of us have never been taught to develop a loving relationship with our bodies. How do we co-create with our body — and simultaneously co-create with our soul?
My process has been a circular one of clearing and finding stillness. There is nothing linear about it. For me, this had looked like yoga, meditation, time in nature and many forms of energy healing. It could look different for you. It may be martial arts, running, or journaling. The process of clearing and coming to stillness is incredibly personal and what works for one person may not work for another.
I find it challenging to experience stillness when there is so much brewing inside. Many of us are not taught how to express deep or painful emotions in a way that is healthy and loving towards ourselves and others. This is where the connection and the grounding into the body can be healing. Our physical practices can help to build that sense of security and solidity we need to feel strong enough to allow the energy of the emotions flow. We may experience physical discomfort as our energy bumps up against all the areas that have been blocked.
The process of clearing is not often easy, but it leads to more peace on the other side… and there are many other sides. It’s an upward spiral that, at times, can certainly feel like a downward one for a while. Even when our energy flows with more ease, it can feel uncomfortable, initially, as it’s such an unfamiliar feeling. After some time, that feeling of power becomes more comfortable. Stillness becomes easier, even welcome. In those moments of stillness, you hear the messages of the body with more clarity. The more you listen, the more you hear. And you can live from a place of deeper wisdom and trust.
