Recently Elena asked me to speak about my path to Kundalini Yoga and my offering of these teachings in the healing space of local Himalayan salt rooms.
After discovering Kundalini Yoga while studying photography at FIT back in 2002, I’d take a weekly class to soothe my soul and alleviate my stress. It was the thing that got me through my time there, and opened up a new world of seeing, relating and being. I never looked back, or questioned it.
Finally, I became a teacher. Once I opened the door to consciousness, there was no turning back. For me, Kundalini Yoga delivers a potent energetic experience, reminding me that there is always another layer to peel away, and that keeps me humble.
The salt room is reminiscent of the womb; warm, pink, dark, familiar. It brings about a sense of comfort, so we can easily let go and drop in. Sometimes in order to release whatever it is we’re holding in our bodies, we need to “escape” the world and “retreat” back inward. The salt room is the perfect place to do just that.
Himalayan salt crystals mineralize every cell of your body, aiding detoxification of everyday pollutants. Breathing and body movements enable the salt to penetrate and heal on a deeper level, allowing the prana, or life force energy, to circulate throughout your system. Your mind can gently relax and take in the healing vibration of the gong more thoroughly at the end of class.
Kundalini Yoga is an applied yogic technology that helps us meet the challenges of life with grace and strength. It is fast, effective and accessible. We all hold a profound power within us, and now is the time to step up and reclaim that power.
In the words of Yogi Bhajan, “Keep up and you’ll be kept up.” Sat Nam.
