”[Sacred space] is an absolute necessity for anybody today. You must have a room, or a certain hour or so a day, where you don’t know what was in the newspapers that morning, you don’t know who your friends are, you don’t know what you owe anybody, you don’t know what anybody owes to you. This is a place where you can simply experience and bring forth what you are and what you might be. This is the place of creative incubation. At first you may find that nothing happens there. But if you have a sacred place and use it, something eventually will happen.”
- Joseph Campbell
Thank-you Mr Campbell for this gem. It is extraordinary what can occur when we change our state of mind. Sometimes a literal change, of State, or location, architecture, or a special room, can reveal a shift within, but what is really provoked is a change in our state of mind. I originally read this quote from Joseph Campbell after a weekend in the country in Upstate NY, and on the train home smiled to myself that “I” had been with myself all along, and “I” can recall this expansive state whether in my teeny tiny apartment or in the expanse of the wooded lakeside. Once the experience of Sacred Space is cultivated it can be called upon at will, anywhere.
Treat yourself to this sacred space. The universe will thank-you in countless ways.
